AI advertising

Plain answer

AI advertising is the use of artificial intelligence to plan, create, and optimize ad campaigns — writing the copy, choosing the audiences, setting the bids, and reallocating budget as results come in. It spans the platforms' own automation and independent tools that manage campaigns across platforms.

How AI advertising actually works

Two layers exist, and they're different purchases:

  • Inside each platform — automation like Google's Performance Max and Meta's Advantage+ optimizes delivery, within that platform, toward that platform's inventory.
  • Above the platforms — independent AI tools that do the marketer's job: turn a business description into campaigns, write ad variations, manage budgets across Google, Meta, and LinkedIn at once, and report in plain language.

Why the two layers aren't the same thing

Platform automation is excellent at its task and structurally incapable of one thing: telling you to spend less on that platform. Google's AI will never recommend moving budget to Meta. The judgment layer — which platforms deserve your money, what a customer should cost, when to stop — has to live somewhere with your incentives, not the platform's. Historically that was an agency or your own late nights; the newer AI tools compete to be that layer at software prices.

What still needs a human?

Judgment at the edges: whether the offer itself is compelling, whether a campaign should exist at all, and whether the AI's confident output is actually right — models make fluent mistakes, and ads spend real money on them. This is why the credible tools keep a human in the loop; Bytown's own design has a marketer review every AI-built campaign before launch. Treat "fully autonomous, no review" as a warning label, not a feature.

Field note from Tomas

Before AI, almost everything in marketing was manual — the ceiling was whoever could write scripts to automate workflows. That's what changed: a marketer who was already great, given the right context and direction, now has no execution limit. That's the honest case for AI advertising. It amplifies judgment; it doesn't replace it.

What this means for your ads

Use the platforms' AI for delivery — it wins at that. Add a cross-platform layer (tool, human, or both) for the money decisions the platforms can't be neutral about. And judge any AI tool the way you'd judge an agency: cost per customer, not the demo.

Want this handled for you? Bytown is the cross-platform judgment layer — AI builds the campaigns, a human marketer reviews, and nothing spends before you approve.

Bytown launches campaigns across Google, Meta, and LinkedIn from one chat, its intelligence learns your business before it writes a word, and a human marketer reviews everything before a dollar moves. First month is 30% off.
